In the early morning hours of monday november 20th, affinity groups set up coordinated street blockades to greet the rush hour traffic of downtown Greensboro, North Carolina. This was done as a response to the call to action placed by the Zapatistas for a general strike in Mexico on that day, as well as a response to the call for various types of blockades throughout the US and Canada.
Streets were blocked with cable wiring, cones and orange tape, railroad ties, and an unknown number of banner drops as well. It's not possible to know how many of these acts ocurred, but at least one forty-foot long banner observed read, "Long Live the Oaxaca rebellion."
Later in the day people gathered downtown to disseminate information to the public about the Oaxaca reblellion and the Mexican government's attempted repression of that uprising. There was also a movie showing and public discussion later on focusing on events in Chiapas, Atenco, and Oaxaca.
Viva Oaxaca libre!
