pls find the flyers attached. print them, distribute, wear them, whatever.

friends:
the situation is bad: judicial purge, press in gags, activists and opposition
leaders in prison. there is no check on the police powers - they could shoot
you, or starve you in solitary confinement for no reason and that would be
fine.

i have been looking for a planned protest in new york since yesterday, but
haven't been able to find anything. now the course left is that of going and
registering a protest ourselves outside the embassy. i have called up friends
back in pakistan who have links in the press here and hopefully we would get
some press coverage. i have gotten in touch with the progressive groups here as
well and will be meeting them later tonight for further organizational support.

i suggest we go and protest at 2 pm tomorrow, november 5th, outside pakistani
embassy in new york to be in sync with the protest in london.

i will update you with whatever i hear. meanwhile, please reply to confirm your
participation. here's a message from pakistan by osama sidique - head of law
department at lums. (two lums professors have also been detained.) i do not
have links with the pakistani associations; if someone could help with that?

also, spread the message.

any other ideas are very welcome.

Dear all. As I write to you many members of society are actively
protesting against the travesty that has plunged us once again into the
dark ages. The hrcp building has been surrounded by police and peaceful
protesters including some of our faculty members are about to be arrested.
In islamabad and elsewhere the top judiciary of the country remains under
house arrest and similar arrests are being made. The press has been
completely muffled. This is the time to peacefully but unequivocally
express our very strong dismay and protest against yet another martial
law. Howvever as we unite in this please ensure that nothing happens that
in any way undermines our institutional norms. Please introspect and gauge
whether continuing silence makes sense any more. Please speak up, stand
together and be counted. And be careful. Regards. Osama siddique ***
