Get ready for your regularly scheduled onslaught of the anti-anarchist whiner brigade. You get some brave anarchists and others who go to the party conventions and take on the state, while Indymedia whiners go off about how anarchists are "pussies" or similar. Hey, if you guys are so upset about the Bush regime and the growing American police state, why aren't you out there fighting like these people? Wow! You are so brave to hurl criticism from the safety of your anonymous comments.

I would have loved to go but unlike the upper middle class "anarchists" - some people have to stay home and work.

To those who claim that the only "middle class" anarchists could come to St. Paul, because others has to work: First of all, i acknowledge your situation, yes we live in a society where the majority of people are wage-slaves, in other words if they take off when they fell like it, they will be fired from their job. Let's acknowledge that together and fight against it, rather than arguing who has more working class credentials, or who has more "traveller" credentials. Nevertheless there are anarchists with very "tight budgets" who managed to make it here. The other side to this is with the depression beginning, a lot of people who might have come, felt like it was too hard. If you're being honest about this, that is truly sad. We needed you here.

NAd soemgot creative toget here. Some people when they heard about the conventions, took their vacation time for that period. Some had no jobs at all (underclass in today's parlance), so they hitch-hiked, rode the rails, took their cars and jugged (i.e. begged for gas). Others got their friends and others who couldn't/wouldn't come to contribute to them, so they could come. Soem people like me got on the internet and researched cheap flights bus rides, etc. Sharing info does help. Now to those who say who attack "middle class and upper class" people anarchists, would you rather have them not fighting for freedom, and being mindless consumers. I want every trust fund baby, every son and daughter of the ruling class to give up their privilege and join the evolution. We need them/you all. we're out-gunned and sometimes out-numbered, so we need every body and mind possible in the fight to save the planet/create a better world/ preserve and extend freedom/ and yes, smash capitalism and the state.

If they exist, there are a handful of them. I personally know quite a few middle-aged and older anarchists who work professional jobs and have middle class incomes, but I've yet to meet *one* upper middle class anarchists.

i commend the who took some chances in the streets of st. paul! no, we can't all make it to st. paul from new york, but these people took some real chances, courageously faced the overwhelmingly force and intimidation of the state (see: the pre-convention raids), knowing that they'd be arrested. they brought a much-needed urgency to all of our whining over the past few years. you can knock them if you want, and try to pin them into some type of objectionable demographic, but when it comes down to it, they were out there fighting the good fight against capitalism and the state, not to mention, the republicans, and they didn't do it by marching into free-speech pens. if only new york wasn't so damn cynical and condescending, we could respond to st paul with some of our own...when it comes down to it, given the state of the economy and the disastrous, imperialist foreign policy of the post-9/11 years, and the complicit media reporting falsehood after falsehood, there should be more of what we saw in st. paul, not less.

the reporting from twin cities indymedia renewed my faith in the indymedia experiment (see: tc.indymedia.org)...the folks at theuptake.org did an amazing job bringing live video, following the events on the ground through clouds of tear gas. coldsnap legal also did a great job keeping people updated. twitter.com proved a great resource. it's been a while since a movement showed such potential.

The world is watching and I see weakness here. (Rules for Radicals). Alinsky the great agitator would remind us that together we will change the world. All of us have too much in common and at stake to self-destruct through bickering. The haves are few in number but mighty in power. The havenots only have their numbers and their voice. The only way to restructure society justly is for us to unite. Come together and see our interests are connected. As we do we will gain more members, more passion, and more power. Freedom fighters unite!
