Jersey City Police evicted 30 homeless families from the abandoned lot that housed "Bushville", a tent city, today. The encampment has faced police harassment since being set up on Tuesday night. Jennifer Cocks, a Bushville organizer, says that the families who were living in the tent city are currently in a "safe place."

"It's a fire hazard," remarked one officer, who refused to give his name. "This is private property. None of these lots down here are abandoned."

About twenty or so people looked on as they waited at a bus stop across the street.

"I don't know why they can't just leave them alone," said Elena Gonzalez. "They ain't even using that property."

No residents were on hand for comment. It appeared that police had cordoned off the entire site and were refusing to allow people to enter.
