Homeless people camp out around Jersey City all the time. Looks as long as they stick to "aceptable" homeless behavior like drinking liquor and shooting heroin the cops don't care. However, if they are homeless with class consciousness then they get driven out in no time flat.

get used to it. from the attack on the APOC party to the malicious prosecution of the m26.org people to this, the authorities have been trying to pre-empt the upcoming summer of protest against the DNC, RNC, and u.s empire at home and abroad.

question is, will we have any response? and if so, what kind?

Here in DC, a Bu$hville was set up by KWRU after a march from Missisippi to DC following the route of one of the Civil Rights marches. The police response? To hem and haw about permits until the last moment-then deny it and demolish Bu$hville. They waited out the initial solidarity mobe we had to defend it(althoug it was onlly a few people), then attacked.

Sound familiar?

Can you explain to me where you think the politicians of this country are supposed to get the money for the food, housing, healthcare, education for poor people.
I hope you don't want them to use my tax dollars for any of this. Tax dollars are mine and other good honest hard working Americans dollars. I for one do not want one dime of my money to be spent on poor people. When I want to help I give to a charity. I want my tax dollars to be spent on things that benefit me. The majority of poor people do not want to get a job (or 2 jobs like I have) and would rather sit on their lazy behinds and suck up my tax dollars. There are plenty of good jobs in this country if they would just look. Sure maybe they might have to get 2 jobs to make ends meet, but they don't even want to get one. I can believe there are 31 million Americans living in poverty but hey the other 250 million of us are doing something right. Let's see take 31 million minus 10 million drug heads and 12 million unfortunate children and that leaves 9 million lazy asses.
So my question is why should I care about a bunch of lazy people and crack heads? Why should my money that I work hard for be used to support anything for these people? I want my money to be used for fighting terrorists, exploring space, fixing roads and things I'm interested in. If your poor in this country it is probably your fault and not anything to do with the government or me. Yes I feel sorry for you but it's not my problem, I have my own. You made your own choices in life just like the 250 million Americans who are making it just fine. So good luck, but don't ask me to support you.

The PPEHRC destroyed their chances of getting sympathy from the general public when they chose as their initial Bushville site a parcel of privately-owned property which the owner had not given them permission to inhabit. The shutdown of that site, and of every other site they try, is now going to be viewed by most as the police simply doing their jobs and maintaining public safety, not as "police harassment" as the unnamed "Indymedia Staff"er so callously alleges in the above article.

You're not doing your cause any favors if the first shot you fire hits you squarely in the foot.

first i have to say i agree people have no business squating on other peoples land.but we should at least provide places people can squat if need be.its not like there are places people can camp for free as they once did in this day and age.but the assumption by the poster that a major segment of the homeless is just lasy is sheer ignorance or maybe just exaustion from the 2 jobs they have at any rate its stupid to assume.i could rattle off quite a few hard working well trained people from all walks of life that now are homeless or near so and not anyone was lazy.
there are any number of reasonss one may become homless.lets say one gets layed off and looses ones home.now they keep going for job interviews but as time goes on they have no way to keep clean no address to use and they begin to be passed over and so the cycle begins,or maybe they are in that hard to employ catagory we get into as we age still viable but passed over for younger people.or maybe they actully have a job but only make like 100 a week after take home.ever try to pay a food bill let alone a rental bill for 100 a week?not in ny city.
or maybe they were working and had no health care insurance one day they are injured not on the job .but they no longer can work after fighting for 2 years maybe they get disability.and its a mear 354.oo a month nice huh.with a supliment its 554.00 a month.well who needs toilet paper.and by the way if your homeless you cant qualify for welfare or food stamps...you have to have a residence for that.so some of YOUR tax dollars are still safe for space exploration cause after all you really need a trip to the moon to get away from the squaters and all.
