Using automated tools available on the internet (see http://nyc.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=17219&group=webcast), multiple web users repeatedly requested images and pages from the site, eventually overloading the server. An Indymedia tech-team volunteer estimated that around 7000 may be participating in the netstrike. That number can only be a rough estimate, though, since there are two crucial factors that are difficult to determine: the capacity of the WEF server, and the bandwidth of the people running the tools. The capacity of the server, which a tech-team volunteer said was running windows 2000 with Lotus-Domino/5.0.8, determines how many requests it can handle. The bandwidth of the netstrikers determines how frequently they can send requests. For information on netstrikes in Italian, visit http://www.netstrike.it .
