15 photos taken from video (article 1)
This was at about 2:30 this afternoon (sunday, feb. 3, 2002) on 12th st. and 3rd ave. The police were arresting many people, some specifically pointed out by undercover police and some just swept up when the police rolled into the crowd. It was supposed to be a temporary autonomous zone, but the police cracked down before it even got started. They arrested reporters, people chanting, people walking, people waiting for buses.....in short, a random assortment of people that happened to be nearby when they attacked. The man in the pictures was apparently unconscious, his body was completely limp....the police carried him between two police vans so he was out of sight from most of the crowd, rifled through his pockets and then lifted him up and threw him onto the bus. The people on the street did nothing to provoke the police attack. Their very existence appeared to be their crime.
