The killing of innocent plane passengers and thousands of employees who work in WTS and Pentagon by the terrorists is a crime against humanity. This, however, does not justify at all even a minor anger against an ordinary Muslim who have nothing to do with this. If the world degenerates into this kind of retaliation, it will be the end of civilisation as we know. Only those who have committed or abetted this crime need to be brought to justice by following the due process of law. I am deeply disturbed by the threats received by the Muslim communities in the U.S. - I have been hearing of Muslim taxi drivers being beaten up, death threats have been issued plus more. This is because the mainstream media has been whipping up a frenzy of racist sentiment. I want to cry when I hear shit like this.
We seem to be in war propaganda mode and it is scaring the shit out of me. Reports (BBC News - Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning) of Afghanistan coming under missile attack, also, Israeli tanks have taken these tragic events in the U.S. as a cover to further their interests in the West Bank and Gaza. On Tuesday night 9 Palestinians were murdered by the Israeli army - not that this will get onto mainstream news programmes.
Please be assured that there are plenty of people who are willing to counter this State-engineered racism. It is time for all of us to stand up and be counted, whether we be black, white, red, yellow or purple. It doesn't matter a fuck. A new Arms race is sure to begin now, with just about any opponent of the neo-liberal establishment justified as fair game in the fight against "terrorism".
We must expose the sheer hypocrisy being spouted by Bush, Blair & co. We need to expose U.S./U.K. foreign policy as acts of State-sponsored terrorism and that this is why there is so much anti-Western feeling all around the world, not just the Middle East.

Very important article here. I hope that the major media giants will offer such stories in their coverage of the events. Even as a non-Muslim, I felt that Islam has been misconstrued in Western media. Now I fear that Islam will be seen as a religion of terror and all Muslims will be in danger of mob-mentality reprisals.

This is more than immensely alarming, it's downright sickening. As always, it is the innocent who are paying the greatest. The innocent in the airplanes, those in the Pentagon, the Towers and surrounding environs, their families, their communities, the list goes on. As this list spirals outwards, so too does the hate. Hate is a powerful and irrational emotion, and directed anywhere other than a constructive and healthy harmless venting of, and more importantly, confrontation with, the INTERNAL source of this hatred, it is the most terrible thing, for it consumes all it touches. I do not blame the writers of these threats for their emotions, merely for the method with which they choose to express it.
This is a time to band together, regroup, and work diligently, intelligently and above all else, in a mature fashion with the aim of emerging stronger, wiser and more aware of the fragility of human life - and the dire need to protect this. This is not done by turning on a handy but innocent "best fit" to one's notions of culpability and stereotype.
My heart, thoughts and prayers are with all those who suffered initially and continue to suffer, through whatever agent. May all our Gods be with us in the time to come.

Its difficult to distinguish reality and stereotypes. European TV stations all the time show the same feature: scene one: three children and two adults posing in front of a camera, singing, dancing, crying. One small girl panning a brand new foil-packaged flag of Palestina. scene two: a bakery salesman keep and show a piece of cake or bread in direction of the camera. Last two days I seen that scene about 100 times. Masters Of Information's comments take very much attention for the facts of dancing, crying and this bread..... Unfortunately this are the only pictures we receive about celebrating of sektor gaza's people. But everybody in Europe understand that people from palestina celebrate that tragedy in US.
I remember time of decision to make the yugoslavia war. The Masters Of Information showed in many European TV stations again and again a picture of a small girl's crying. Minister of defense of Germany explained to the PEOPLE: 'So here you can see how suffer people of kosovo.'Untill today nobody can answer, if this girl been crying for some sweets which refused by mother or for what?. But this picture been enough to convince Germans to make war against Yugoslavia. If nobody reflects, ask for reasons, it is very easy to make facts by visualization with TV pictures.
I hope very much that many people in US don't want to see pictures like that anymore. Not in NYC, Washington,DC, Khartoum, San Salvador, Bagdad, Ho Tchi Minh Town, Beograd and not in Kabul.
Probably human kind will fail on its own incapability: to distribute prosperity equitably and to accept that humans are different by ideas, ideals, culture and appearance.

I do not condone anything that is happened in NY over the past few days. This is horrible and I feel the same sadness anybody does for the INNOCENT victims in NY, especially rescue workers.
That having been said, all this racist crap is the very reason the attacks happened in the first place.
The United States has been commiting state sponsored anti-arab racism for decades. Save for the countries theyve devastated in central america, the other targets include Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Sudan, Ghadafi (Lybia), Iran, Pallestine.
This attack is not the product of bad domestic security practices, it is a product of a terrible, violent foreign policiy of un-checked violence against the arab people.

i think it's absolutely disgusting how much ignorance people have, but even more so how many people act on it. Being muslim does not make you evil. You can't blame an entire religious group, ethnic group or political group for the actions of everyone considered to be a member of that particular group. When Timothy McVieh was found guilty of the Oklahoma city boming, Americans didn't go around beating up themselves, so why are we doing this to muslims?

I am an Australian who has been shocked by the recent events in the US.
However, what is even more shocking is the reaction by many Australians who have found the need to abuse and threaten and attack symbols of Islam. I find this equally disturbing. Surely anyone who has actually bothered to take an interest in the Muslim religion would realise that these were not acts of muslims- these could not have been acts of anyone with strong religious beliefs, no god/ prophet says it is right to kill thousands of innocent people. I am also worried about the backlash against the muslim people , many of which I work with, who feel scared to leave their houses. Australia has targetted muslims for the last couple of years with these people being blamed for every different type of crime. I just wanted to let muslim people know that their are many people who think like me and that not everyone is against you, you have our support and love in a time that is equally as difficult for you , just as it is for the victims.

Just wanted to say that it's sad to see how little it takes (one news report with a crying "American") to unearth the deeply harboured hatreds of brainwashed uneducated people. Also known as bison. Commonly found being herded by those who know best (the government) who then lovingly lead them over a cliff to their own demise. Its simply pathetic, given the plethora of information available to everyone today. Is it their fault for lingering on every word that comes out of the mouths of CNN reporters? Americans raised on a diet of propaganda and patriotism? When it comes to show their true colours they certainly do.

I'd like to say that the way people are treating you and your family is atrocious. They get all upp in arms over an attack which was targeting the Government (which had caused suffering to a lot of people) and the fact that innocent deaths resulted. There are points of agreement in the three big monotheisms. One such point is that humans are made in the image and likeness of God - and by virtue of that are worth more. Christians who try to terrify or hurt Muslims (or as reports show anyone who looks 'different' - i.e. Sikhs, S.E. Asians, Africans)are forgetting a simple directive:
"What you do to the least of my brethren, you do to Me." This kind of violence erodes the soul of the violent person and of the society they are in. We do not need this right now (nor ever - but especially at the moment) as it is clear that are country is in the process of changing very rapidly. We need a change for the better - not increased isolation, xenophobia and hate.

I go to a University in the midwest, and apparently so called "educated" people are behaving like animals. I have seen two of my friends sitting in rows by themselves in class because they are Arab - Americans or slightly resemble them. It is a sad state of affairs; the level of individuals in this country has been reduced in this country almost to mob rule. My brother told me that if you scattered sand in front of most people and told them it was grain, they would peck at it like chickens. I guess he was right.

I just want to be brief and say that you are not alone. I'm working with groups that are organizing to provide anti-racist support and take leadership from the Arab community to prevent the hate and backlash.

Upon reading Kim and the others' commentaries above, and watching the television in the past several days, I am deeply saddened about the anti-Arab, anti-Muslim backlash happening in the U.S. and around the world. It seems that the United States (and its citizens who blindly follow what the mainstream media is telling and showing them) is moving itself into a position of reactionary violence which will only exacerbate the root causes of this terrorist violence. American citizens shown in the media seem to be rallying behind a cry of war rather than asking the right questions about why these attacks happened in the first place(i.e. our foreign policies in the Middle East and all over the world). I am not trying to minimize how absolutely despicable those acts of terrorism were, nor am I trying to make excuses for the perpetrators. Many people in my community at the New Jersy Shore, including myself, have friends and relatives who are still missing or who narrowly escaped with their lives on Tuesday. All of us have been affected. But I am so discouraged with the general reaction in which Americans (and, it seems, other citizens of the western world) direct their anger towards other innocent peoples (i.e. attacks on Muslims and Arabs) rather than their own government. How to combat such a nationwide consciousness of xenophobia, widespread ignorance of foreign policy issues, and the unwillingness to ever question their nation-state's actions??? I for one am in deep need of some hope for our future....

For now, I remain in solidarity with all innocent Muslims and Arabs around the world who have unjustifiably become scapegoats for angry retribution-seekers. May we all work towards peace in whatever ways we can.....

How can I not feel some hatred towards those of Middle Eastern descent. After my heart sinking to a particularly low point on Tuesday the 11th, it now sinks further to hear the plans for revenge from many people in the US, and by Bush.

I am 100% behind retaliating against these terrorists - but not the countries that they happen to be from. If the terrorists turned out to be from the USA - would Bush attack the whole country? No.

Muslims are not guilty of this attack, nor Arabs or Afghans. If the US attacks those that are not guilty of the crime then how different is this than the targetting of the innocent in the WTC and the Pentagon? People targetting Muslims or Arabs who are innocent are also being hipocritical.

Working like Firefighters of NYC for peace and understanding

Dear Friends,

Once more I would like to convey my deep condolences to the American people for your grief, which is really the grief of the whole of humanity, due to this terrible tragedy, which cruelty and evil are beyond words. May God and human soon heal all the wounds - physical, mental and spiritual.


I do agree with what you say on the issue. I believe that better understanding, communication and peaceful relations between our communities are not only good but essential for our well-being and for the well-being of the world at large. Just to remember the fact that Christians form about 33 per cent of the total world population, while Muslims number 18 per cent. That means that Christians and Muslims make up more than half of humanity. Therefore, the prospect and implications of our relations is important for all humanity.

I think we can take the exemplary and heroic work of firefighters of NYC, who to have been trying their best to rescue victims and save their life under rubbles of WTC. In the same spirit but with more energy we have to work for the peace and well-being of humanity. Not only the defeat of hatred and violence, but also from AIDS, racism, illiteracy to poverty the solution of many problems depends on our mutual understanding and cooperation.

I am also attaching some quotations which may shed some light on the problem and dissipate misunderstandings. One is from a paper delivered by father Thomas Michael and the other is from Said Nursi, a well-known Muslim scholar who was dreaming to see devoted Christians and Muslims to work together shoulder to shoulder for peace of humankind.

He held that those innocent people who died in such circumstances "were martyrs of a sort, whatever religion they belonged to," and that "their reward would be great and save them from Hell." "Therefore," he concluded, "it may be said with certainty that the calamity which the oppressed among Christians suffer, those connected to Jesus (UWP) ... is a sort of martyrdom for them." Those who oppressed others and perpetrated evil against their neighbours will be punished by God. By contrast, he adds, "If those who suffered the calamity were those who hastened to assist the oppressed, and who strove for the welfare of humanity, and struggled to preserve the principles of religion and sacred revealed truths and human rights, their rewards will be so great from God as to completely transcend their earthly sufferings."

Because of my intense compassion and pity, I was touched strongly by the afflictions, poverty and hunger visited on unfortunates as a result of mankind's disaster [World War II] and this winter's cold, as well as by a harsh non-physical, spiritual cold. Suddenly a warning came to me: there was a sort of mercifulness and reward in such disasters, even for unbelievers, so that the disaster became insignificant in relation to them. Heavenly visitations such as those are like a sort of martyrdom for innocent people.

While for three or four months I had had no news of the War and the world situation, I fell to pitying the families and children
in Russia and Europe. Then I recalled the warning; the aspects of the calamity that it elucidated became a cure for my painful compassion. It was asfollows:

If those who died and were ruined by that heavenly visitation, which occurred as a consequence of the crimes of tyrants, were fifteen years of age or less, they were martyrs of a sort whatever religion they belonged to. Like Muslims, their great spiritual reward makes the calamity as nothing. If those who were fifteen and older were innocent and oppressed, their reward is great; indeed, it will save them from Hell.

For in recent times, as though it was a time between prophets, an attitude of indifference has arisen towards religion and the religion of Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him). And, at the end of time, the true religion of Jesus (Peace be upon him) will prevail and will stand shoulder to shoulder with Islam.
Therefore, it may be said with all certainty that the calamity that the oppressed among Christians suffer, those connected to
Jesus (UWP), who at present remain in an interregnum-like obscurity, is a sort of martyrdom for them.

The old and the afflicted, and the poor and the weak in particular, suffer adversity under the violence and force of mighty and despotic tyrants. But, for sure, together with atoning for the sins arising from the vices of civilization, ingratitude, and the misguidance of philosophy and unbelief, it is a hundredfold profit for them. I was informed thus by truth and reality, and I offered endless thanks to the Most Merciful of the Merciful and found consolation for that grievous pain and compassion. If those who suffered the calamity were oppressors, and the tyrants who brought about mankind's distress, and the self-seeking dastardly human satans who set fire to the world of humanity for their own benefits, then they were entirely deserving of it and it was pure divine justice.

If those who suffered the calamity were those who hastened to assist the oppressed, and who strove for the ease of humanity,and struggled to preserve the principles of religion and sacred revealed truths and human rights, most certainly, the spiritual and immaterial results of such self-sacrifice and those pertaining to the hereafter are so great that they make the calamity a means of honour and distinction
for them, and should make them love it.)

6. Siding with 'friends' even when they conduct badly in international eyes (Isreal). Also shutting down from 'enemies' even if they have changed over times.. Perfact example is not asking for Iran's help even though it was a much better choice than Pakistan this time since it's a people-elected government.

7. Lack of common-sense:

I have just viewed a documentary on BBC TV (Panorama 14 Oct 2001 'Quran & Country'). I find it incredible that British Muslims are now stating that they would seriously consider the British establishment as being fair game for terrorist attacks in retaliation to the coalition actions in Afghanistan.

Within the documentary there was much anger and complaint by British Muslims at the loss of innocent lives within Afghanistan as a consequence of the coalition actions.

Where then was the depth of anger, grief, and sympathy shown by such introspective, peace loving British Muslim people when the WTC tragedy occurred? Thousands of innocent people died on Septhember 11th, and yet they chose to ignore that in their posturing over the loss of life in Afghanistan. Let us recognise here that the Taleban government had ample opportunity to surrender Bin Laden, and they chose not to. It is the Taleban killing their own people through their own decisions.

So as a consequence of the USA/UK taking action against a nation that chooses to support Bin Laden's evil acts, the British Muslim response is to now incite terrorist attacks against the very country they were born in and also have the privilege to live in!

Why would Muslims who have lived in the UK all their lives now wish to commit acts of terrorism against their own nation? The truth is, the Muslim people in the UK do not consider themselves British and have no desire to be British. It seems to me that the Muslim view is one of extremism, and hatred against those who do not follow their values.

To all Muslims who share such views, who condemn their own respective parent nations such as the UK as being "evil", "satanic", etc., etc., I say this:
