what about independent media? arresting anyone wtih a camera is called FACISM, and a not so subtle attempt at CHILLING FREE SPEECH esp when said photographers and videographers are not blocking the street.

This illegal incident by the New York City police is as outrageously disturbing as it is ironic and sad. Our governement fights wars in the name of freedom and democracy which are blatant, transparent lies, and they then treat our own citizens as did Sadam Hussien treat his as the mainstream media trivializes violence with moral and patriotic ambiguity. Does anyone refute the actions of armed officers attacking a man with a camrea who attempts to expose truth? Moises Saman has witnessed and experienced first hand the madness of a paranoid and power hungry imperialist society which opperates under the ideaology to squash any oppossing view point through force, aggression, and fear. This incident as well as the hundreds of countless others this week and the thousands occuring daily around the planet are utterly and incomprehensiblely unacceptable. The social class struggle is accelerating at an alarmingly rapant rate, as the corrossive effects of greed and facism infect our political system world wide. There is zero evidence to support the provocations for the mindless aggression of NYPD towards the people of New York, it's visitors, and the FREE press. The events and peaceful protest that have transpired through out the past few days have been overwhelmingly peaceful and the Bloomberg administration is guilty for cowering to the masters of war. Mayor Bloomberg, sir, you are a weak, over-exhalted privelaged coward and I suggest you witness first hand the harrassment of the people, the 'true majority', for we will exercise our first amendment rights. There is absolutely no moral objective on the part of the 'authorities' as everyday people and journalist attempt to fight for peaceful documentation of the rapid erossion of our constitution and freedoms.

tensions are (obviously) very high - but there are paid media on the streets as well (some are friends of mine)- they are trying to get the shots that sell-especially overseas. unless you get unique shots of major players, inside shots at conventions are often boring.

Granted, policemen are only human and many of them are brainwahed in anti-terrorist mumbo-jumbo, but their job is dangerous and we in the peace movement cannot afford to further antagonize them. Let's not judge all police by the actions of a few . . . the same we would expect from Americans in not judging peace activists by the actions of a few violent people or agent provocateurs. Police actions like these are but a symptom of a society that is sadly misinformed and misled by a government/media controlled by powerful corporate interests. We NEED the law enforcement people on the side of the people, so please do not diss all cops becuase of the actions of a few hot-headed red-necked gestapo wannabes!

I'm certain that the police a.k.a. PIGS, couldn't see Moises press pass. I'm sure that once they got him off the streets long enough to keep him from documenting the truth, the PIG thug government worshippers suddenly realized that they had arrested members of the press.
