That Narco News, Guerilla News, and Indymedia journalists plus some individual bloggers are going to sue based on an existing NY Supreme Court decision regarding Narco News and Internet journalists, and they have Ron Kuby and Tom Lesser as lawyers. A lot of journalists were arrested Tuesday. Does anyone have more info?

There will probably be several mass arrest trials. The guild has been planning all year and more on how to handle aftermath of convention.

Do encourage anyone you know who got swept up in an arrest who may not have had info on legal rights training that the Nat'l Lawyers Guild will help them obtain legal counsel to appear in court with them. It should be pro bono (ask). No one need appear in court for a Desk Appearance Ticket or other procedure without an attorney.

The NYS Supreme Court held the city in comtempt of court for holding the detainees illegally. You've got an easy case. I hope there is a massive class action suit.

Lose "pig". Its not helpful.

I agree that the term "pig" is VERY unnecessary. There are actually many police officers who do a lot of good. Furthermore, I don't think the decision to detain the protesters came from the police officers. It's true that many police officers followed orders that some of us wouldn't have followed, or that some of them may not have agreed with. Still, when you have income on the line, money that you need in order to support your family and pay your bills, it makes it hard to speak out against your supervisor.

I think it's easy to get high and righteous when you see OTHER people not risk money and legal status for things they believe in. Please consider though how many of us who read indymedia totally disagree with what the government uses our income taxes to fund, yet at the same time doesn't refuse to pay taxes and face the legal consequences of that. I think it's a valid comparison. Taking a HUGE step to risk your livelihood is NOT something that many of us do, even many of those who got arrested this week in the protests. I'm not trying to denigrate the value of what the protesters did, but I do think it's important to consider the bigger picture and realize that who we think of as less 'noble' may be on right on par with many of us.

In the end, I hope the court system succeeds and is able to rule based solely on legality instead of political pressure. Will we ever know?

Bloomberg should be arrested - defying court orders is a slippery slop to anarchy.

The city should have massive fines and Bloomberg should be fined personally. He is a fascist in sheep’s clothing.

I strongly agree that public officials must, must obey court orders. They have to be held accountable. We as citizens however have the right to peacefully disobey orders of the court which we consider to be heinous, the jury being our last line of defense.

of course they will get away with it..there is no bill of rights or assumed innocence in this country.. but.. compaired to what they are planning for us this is just the beginning..

After all the officials and decision makers that were responsible for this debacle are sued in their official capacity, I would really like to see extra special attention paid to suing them in their individual capacity.

Once they failed to respond to the Supreme Court's Order to release the protesters, they were acting outside their jurisdiction and on their own, unless of course, there is something in the Patriot Act or other myriad of rights bending and breaking legislation that we haven't had time to spot that would save their rumps. I want to see those responsible left with nothing more than a beat up Nash Rambler and a can of beans (generic, of course).

My intuition tells me that this is part of the biggest RICO in history.

While many young men and women join up to do something for their community & to do good work, at this point, most if not EVERY SINGLE police department has been proven to be corrupt, racist, violent, homophobic, classist,... Even the 'good cops' become part of the cover-up. With their silence, their refusal to quit the force and join the real resistence, by aiding and abeting of the 'bad apples'--the so called 'blue wall of silence'--they have become part of the system they signed up to fight: just another gang, the boyz in blue. The only good cop is a whistle-blowing cop. The only good cop is the one who arrests the chief!

So I hear you when you say there are cops out there doing good--protecting people with capital from those who would take it away, keeping the streets safe for business, maintaining 'Law and Order' in a time where neither is commonly seen in the court room, the congress, or the current regime in the white house. I wish the cops in my town were picking up trash instead of polaroid photographing homeless kids hanging out at the bus station. I wish the cops in my town were doing something to stop the recent surge in sexual assault downtown instead of enforcing the law against covering up with a blanket. I wish the cops in my town were investigating and arresting out of town slumlords who gouge families and rent dilapidated apartments at vacation rental rates instead of photographing resisters holding antiwar signs at the stoplight every week.

THE PIGS ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS. They are trained to turn on you at their master's bidding, even if they seem nice and personable. They might even be a member of your family or a close friend.
