the cops are just standing with their backs to the door. apparently, they arrested some folks earlier, i have no idea what for.

there's some fancy laywer on his way. we were on NY1 just a minute ago.

so, like... we're a little scared, but we should be just fine.

I live across the street from Times Up Space at 49 E. Houston. There is a large Police Presence on Houston St at 1 AM. Police were blocking both sides of Houston St. The Police were swaggering and seem to believe that Times Up must represent a great threat to the public

It just shows you that the NYPD is a star system where a diva like Raymond Kelly is allowed to spend as much of the city's money as he wishes to indulge his hissie fit vendettas.

so i just left the area after loitering around for a while trying to figure out what was going on. latest word is that the cops did NOT seize the Time's Up space. Partiers locked themselves inside and would not let the cops in, and eventually they stopped trying to get it. people were allowed to leave. police still had the east-bound lanes of Houston blocked, and had cleared the entire block of on-lookers. multiple people were definitely arrested, in a pretty violent manor.

on a personal note, i very disturbed by the hostility i witnessed between cops and cyclists tonight. i feel like things have reached a new level of antagonism. i would like to see some earest discussion about tactics on the part of the cyclists about what is the best way to proceed.

it appears as though the cops were stealing bikes again- they were clipping bikes off the fence and taking them away. i thought that there was a court order that they couldn't do that... what the hell???

it all ended around 2am. around 12:30am, there was tall bike jousting in the street in front but that didn't last long, that's what got the police there. a black cop, undercover pushed his way in and it took 4 of us to push him back, unsuccessfully. he came in, talked shit and left. we barricaded the door, but then thought of fire codes and scrapped that idea, then called our lawyer, norm siegel to come down to negotiate. more police showed up and followed people who left our space. eventually at least 10 people were arrested from our vantage point and the police were forcefully and arbitrarily pepper spraying folks, pulling their hair and shoving them in police vans. around 1:30am, the press and norm siegel negotiated and it was agreed from the sergeant that everybody wanted to go home and no arrests would take place.

as we vacated, about 20 of us, cops grabbed their chain slicer and started to cut locks off bikes, even though we videotaped it with the news and even though the federal judge said no. the nypd committed federal contempt of court. all's clear now.

thank you, n.y.p.i.g., for protecting me and the entire city of new york from these dangerous, murderous, bomb-throwing... bicycle riders. you sure showed them. whats a little trespassing, thievery, and arbitrary arrest when there's a threat like young people on bikes lurking on the city streets? i feel so safe.

HOW TO BOOBY-TRAP THAT CHAIN SLICER

If you want to set up a very unpleaant suprise for cops slicing off bikes, here's how you do it. Some of the larger U-locks have a very hefty shackle. You replace that with a hollow tube, capped at both ends and filled(via a shrader fitting at one end) with your favorite mix of CS, pepper spray, or whatever. Pressurize to 125 psi with your pump, and use it as a replacement shackle in any U-lock whose shackle can be removed.

When the cops slice that thing open, the slicer blade will throw the pepper spray all over them. Even if the cop with the slicer wears a face shield, he will get it in the crotch and other cops nearby will also be sprayed.

i was one of the 33 arrested during the ride. bike is confiscated until after my court date on NOV29th. this is definately harrassment. i was obeying traffic orders - and was off my bike as soon as i was surrounded by a cop SUV (no less).

If XUp is doing something in a group way - regarding legal action. Id really love to know about it. Otherwise... I'll probably be defending myself and trying to get my bike out earlier from the pen!
