anarchists on m19 in nyc: where were we?

our last-minute call for anarchist and radical anti-imperialist participation in nyc's commemoration of the 2nd anniversary of the invasion of iraq resulted in a contingent of about 75 punx at the march to bloomberg's house... and this hot banner. with chants of "no war but class war!" and "fuck nypd, we want peace and anarchy!" morale remained high during what was overall a fairly tepid, typical WWP-front-organized rally. when the march passed a church on park ave, an emerging wedding party waved and flashed peace signs at the bloc who broke into a chant of "make love, not war!" later festivities included those much-beloved rites of passage, burning a flag, running from cops and posing for pictures. the brigade would like to observe that lack of long-term planning hampered the possibilities of lively, creative actions of any sort to draw the public's attention to the continuing senseless war and bloody occupation. we are anarchists involved in the nyc community and are not excluding ourselves from responsibility in this. we feel that, as shown by the enthusiastic 11th-hour response to our hot call-out, there are a lot of people ready and angry and excited to take the streets. needless to say we will have much more success if we can be on the ball with effective actions and plans for people to participate in. march 19th could have been far more of a smash. stay in the streets! love and rage, the clash and scuffle brigade.
