True, Solar One is not 100% off-Grid - and never have we claimed to be. Anyone who visits our center and inquires about our system will gladly and openly be told about its capabilities. Nearly 90% of all new solar systems are grid-tied (meaning that some of their electric comes from the utility) - and, honestly, that's the model most worth advocating for at this point- particularly in NYC. Our goal as an organization is not to emulate off-grid living. We live in a dense urban environment, not the forests of Northern California. Rather, we hope to bring focus to a variety of environmental intiatives that are appropriate for our City. That's what Citysol is about - and, for the record, we were fortunate to have nearly all of our juice come from our little system on Sunday - so to imply that it wasn't solar powered is also false.

To insinuate that our not being %100 off-grid is some sort of dirty secret is total distortion, and really insulting and unfair to all the people who commit so much energy and time to Solar One's efforts.

You should contact our organization and ask for information before posting this kind of uninformed, mean-spirited, completely unhelpful comment for the public to read.

And as for your very unclear assertion that we are somehow a "corporate scam" - I really cannot even begin to hazard a guess of what you are talking about. Our center, and our future center, Solar 2 (check out www.solar1.org, for details), are part of the local communities' long term plan for Stuyvesant Cove. Our 30 year lease with the EDC obligates us to maintain Stuyvesant Cove Park and to raise funds for and manage a permanent Environmental Center.
