People's Picnic in Central Park There will be a People's Picnic in Central Park on the Great Lawn on Sunday. Forward Widely! Join us for a People's Picnic in Central Park Great Lawn directly following the UFPJ march! Central Park is Manhattan's town commons! It belongs to all the people of this city! The City of New York and the Central Park Conservancy have made a private deal to withdraw the park from public use and with the help of the courts have denied us the right rally there. This is an outrage and a clear assault on our freedom of assembly. We invite all New Yorkers and people from all over the country to join us at a giant People's Picnic following the completion of the United For Peace and Justice March. Bring your banners, musical instruments, frisbees, family and friends, and lots of good food to share! Those of you who wish to march with UFPJ are asked to follow the march to its completion and disperse peacefully at Union Square, before making your way to the Great Lawn. Directions: The Great Lawn is located directly behind the Metropolitan Museum (between 79th and 84th Streets and 5th Avenue) Take the green Line 6 train to 77th Street and walk west to the park. Enter on 77th Street and find a path heading north/west. (Please note that in NYC it is illegal to assemble in public spaces in groups greater than 20 without a permit. On principle, this is an unpermitted picnic.) The fight to restore Central Park to public use is far from over and it is just beginning!
