The Daily News is reporting today that there is a rat infestation at City Hall. Apparently the rodent invasion is the result of lunchtime noshers in City Hall Park. It highlights, of course, the reality of the rodent problem all over the city. If you don't address the food source there is little that can be done about rats. That is why it is so important, from a public health perspective, to legalize commercial waste disposers. All over various neighborhoods food waste is being stored where food is prepared, stored and consumed. The use of disposers would alleviate this problem while also, as we have shown elsewhere, greatly reduce the city's solid waste management problems.
