March to Times Square

Despite a forecast of pouring rain, about 100 people from NY and NJ stepped out to the streets to mark the 10th Annual National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation in New York City. A rally at Madison Square Park featured families of those killed by law enforcement, Lynne Stewart, representatives from the Almighty Latin King & Queen Nation, Amnesty International OUTfront, Justice Committee-National Congress of Puerto Rican Rights, No Police State Coalition, the NYCLU's Bill of Rights Defense Campaign, October 22 Coalition, and World Can't Wait. Def Poetry Jam's Emanuel Xavier and Spiritchild from Movement in Motion provided some powerful poetry, while the Rude Mechanical Orchestra (spontaneously reduced to the Rude Mechanical Drum Corps on account of the rain) kept a lively beat for the march to Times Square.
