On December 9, the Partisan Defense Committee will have its 20th Annual Holiday Appeal benefit for class-war prisoners. December 9 also marks the 24th anniversary of the racist and political frame-up of innocent death-row prisoner, Mumia Abu-Jamal. Speakers include Lynne Stewart, a leftist lawyer and victim of the bogus “war on terror” who faces up to 30 years in prison when she gets sentenced on January 20. Also speaking will be PDC Counsel and former attorney for Mumia Abu-Jamal, Rachel Wolkenstein along with Barry Bachrach, lead attorney for Leonard Peltier. The Holiday Appeal benefit will also feature live music with Bern Nix/Francois Grillot. Also appearing are Prajna and Madsól.

The Holiday Appeal benefit raises money for the PDC prisoner stipend program, which sends monthly stipends to 17 class-war prisoners, people who have been imprisoned for fighting on behalf of labor and the oppressed. This year’s benefit will highlight the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal, a former Black Panther Party spokesman, MOVE supporter and award-winning journalist. Jamal was framed up for the 1981 killing of police officer Daniel Faulkner in Philadelphia and sentenced to death explicitly for his political views. December 9 marks 24 years of incarceration for a killing the cops know Mumia did not commit. Federal and state courts have refused to consider the sworn confession of Arnold Beverly that he, not Mumia, shot and killed officer Faulkner. Free Mumia Now! Abolish the Racist Death Penalty!

We will also be highlighting the case of Leonard Peltier, an internationally revered class-war prisoner in America. His incarceration for nearly three decades, because of his activism in the American Indian Movement, has come to symbolize this country’s racist repression of its native people, the survivors of centuries of genocidal oppression. Peltier’s frame-up trial for the deaths of two marauding FBI agents in what had become a war zone at the South Dakota Pine Ridge Reservation shows what capitalist “justice” is all about. Although the lead government attorney has admitted, “We can’t prove who shot those agents,” the 61-year-old fighter for Native Americans remains locked away. Free Leonard Peltier Now!

The other prisoners the PDC supports with our stipend fund are former Black Panthers Ed Poindexter and Wopashitwe Mondo Eyen we Langa; Jaan Laaman, Thomas Manning and Richard Williams of the Ohio 7; San Quentin 6 prison activist Hugo Pinell; eight MOVE members railroaded and sentenced to 30-100 years after the 1978 police attack on their Philadelphia home; and Jamal Hart, Mumia’s son, targeted because of his prominent activism on his father’s behalf.
