Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (December 9) is up at the website
in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from China Radio International, the Voice of Russia, Radio Havana Cuba, and Radio Netherlands.
From CHINA- Australia's Parliament passed the tough anti-terrorism laws reported here last week, raising questions about civil rights and free speech. Making the rounds in Europe, US Sec of State Rice has had to respond to criticism of CIA activities and prisons in Europe- first we'll hear what she said on Monday, then how she responded on Wednesday.
From RUSSIA- Inmates of secret CIA prisons in Eastern Europe were transported to N Africa just prior to Sec of State Rice's visit to Europe. Rice signed a deal with Romania to set up military bases there, and Bulgaria is hoping to see US bases there as well next year. Pressure continued to rise in the EU for solid answers about secret US prisons in Europe- this was the top story in most of the international press this week, and here is a commentary from the VOR.
From CUBA- In Italy, court proceedings moved forward concerning the so-called "extraordinary rendition" of a Muslim cleric, who was abducted by the CIA from Milan in 2003- this is the first time a foreign government has filed criminal charges against US operatives for their role in a counter-terrorism mission.
From NETHERLANDS-The UN official responsible for promoting human rights in Iraq has lashed out at both the US military and the Iraqi government. Venezuela's President Chavez won a huge victory in Parliamentary elections, giving him unprecedented power- the significance of this victory in an election boycotted by the opposition is analyzed in this report.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-

And the Partytown streams are great and informative- (13.3MB)
