FREE MUMIA ABU-JAMAL COALITION SHOWS SUPPORT FOR STANLEY “TOOKIE” WILLIAMS

Among those included are City Council Member Charles Barron and Chairman Fred Hampton Jr., son of slain Fred Hampton.

NEW YORK, NY – On Friday, December 9th, 2005, the Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Coalition (NYC) will be hosting a press conference in a show of support for Stanley “Tookie” Williams, the outspoken death-row inmate who is scheduled to be executed on December 13th, unless granted clemency by California State Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Scheduled to speak at the conference is City Council Member Charles Barron; Chairman Fred Hampton Jr. of the Prisoners of Conscience Committee and son of slain Fred Hampton of the original Black Panther Party; Sundiata Sadiq, Vice-President of the Ossining NAACP; Alex Clermont of the Save Tookie Committee; and Dr. Suzanne Ross, co-chair of the Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Coalition (NYC). The press conference will begin at 12:00 p.m. sharp on the steps of City Hall.

Stanley Williams was the co-founder in 1971 of the Los Angeles Crips gang. In 1981 he was convicted of murdering four people during two robberies and sentenced to death row at San Quentin State Prison. Stan deeply regrets his gang involvement but has always maintained his innocence of these crimes. He has also been nominated 5 times for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in helping to prevent gang violence, and has been nominated four times for the Nobel Literature Prize for his children's books that warn young people about the pitfalls of joining a gang and exposes them to alternatives.

The Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Coalition (NYC) is a group of individuals and organizations in New York, organizing for the freedom of Mumia Abu-Jamal based on the evidence showing that Mumia is innocent. The Coalition stands in dedicated solidarity with the recent statements and commentaries issued by Mumia in support of Stanley Williams, and calls on Governor Schwarzenegger to spare his life.
