On Thursday, December 8, 2005, the United Luisita Workers' Union [ULWU] and the Central Azucarera De Tarlac Labor Union [CATLU] signed their respective agreements with management and the strike in Hacienda Luisita was finally over. The one-year strike is a historic victory for the people of Hacienda Luisita.

Local activists who recently visited the Philippines and spent time at Hacienda Luisita will offer a multimedia presentation and facilitated discussion to help us understand the history and current situation at this prominent plantation.

December 10 is International Human Rights Day. We will commemorate this day with a focus on human rights in the Philippines.

The Philippines is in a state of undeclared martial law, with members of progressive people’s organizations becoming targets of state terrorism at the hands of the US-backed Gloria Macapagal Arroyo regime. Please join us as we learn about who is being targeted, who is behind these killings, and what we can do about it.
