Rally to Defend NYU Graduate Workers Against Threat of Being Fired
With
AFL-CIO President John J. Sweeney,
UAW President Ron Gettelfinger,
Transport Workers Union Local 100 President Roger Toussaint

Nearly 1,000 graduate workers, students and faculty from NYU with workers
and community supporters from around the City rallied recently at NYU in
response to NYU Pres. Sexton’s ultimatum, telling graduate workers to return to
work by Dec 5th or be fired. Graduate teaching and research assistants at NYU,
members of GSOC-UAW Local 2110, have been on strike since Nov.,9th. They
were forced out after NYU took advantage of a regressive decision by the Bush
controlled NLRB and refused to continue to recognize & bargain with the union.

Dephi Demands Provoke Auto Workers Resistance
With
UAW President Ron Gettelfinger
Gregg Shotwell, Member of UAW Local 2151, Delphi Auto Parts,
Coopersville, Michigan and author of “Live Bait and Ammo”.

Dephi rank and filers received an offer they had to refuse. CEO Steve Miller filed
for bankruptcy & proposed a 50% wage cut, massive layoffs & hefty bonuses for
management. Local officers and rank and file workers at many union locals across
several states reacted by organizing marches, petition drives, & meetings to fight
back proposing work to rule and a possible strike. According to Shotwell “The rank
& file have a plan...it is based on inflicting economic hardship on GM-Delphi until
management understands that a fair contract is cheaper than industrial combat.
But when workers run production backwards cost exceeds profit and the
consequences fit the criminals like handcuffs.”
