GANGBOX: CONSTRUCTION WORKERS NEWS SERVICE
 http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/gangbox/

Brothers and Sisters,

Hi, I'm Gregory A. Butler, the union carpenter who founded the GANGBOX:
CONSTRUCTION WORKERS NEWS SERVICE in July, 1999. For the last 7 years,
GANGBOX has been providing news and information to construction workers
and other labor activists.

GANGBOX ix a listserv, on the yahoogroups network, that sends out
articles from various news outlets (ranging from conservative corporate
media to the far left) and also offers original commentary on the
problems in the labor movement, and presents revolutionary unionist
solutions to those problems.

GANGBOX also forwards information on political issues of the day,
ranging from the imperalist wars in the Middle East to racial and sex
discrimination right here at home.

The core of the GANGBOX audience is unionized construction workers, but
there are workers from every industry, as well as folks from the
activist community, who read the list as well.

GANGBOX is expanding, and will be needing volunteers - correspondents
to write original news and commentary articles, contributing editors to
select and forward news articles from other media outlets and tech
support people to upgrade and maintain our computer equipment.

You do NOT need any previous media experience at all for ANY of these
volunteer positions... all you need is a strong belief in social change
- and a willingness to do something to bring that change about.

I would encourage workers (in particular construction workers) to
volunteer - in particular, if you want to write about your trade and
your union, the problems in it and what you would do to make things
better. If you don`t feel comfortable with writing, you can forward
articles from other websites to the list, or help out with maintaing
the computer equipment.

I would also encourage college students who want to help out the labor
movement to volunteer. I could definitely use folks with formal
journalism and/or creative writing training.

While I cannot at this time offer formal college credit for your
volunteer experience here, I will speak to your professors to see if we
can work out some kind of formal recognition for your work here at
GANGBOX and I will certainly write letters of recommendation for you.

The hours are flexible - as much or as little time as you have to
offer. GANGBOX is based in New York City, so I would prefer volunteers
who live in the Tri State Area (in particular for tech support
volunteers). But, I will accept volunteers for the contributing editor
and correspondent positions who live anywhere - as long as you have
access to a computer and a phone.

If you're interested, please contact me, at  gangbox@excite.com

Thank you, and I look forward to working with you.

FRATERNALLY,
GREGORY A. BUTLER, LOCAL 608 CARPENTER,
FOR GANGBOX: CONSTRUCTION WORKERS NEWS SERVICE
