8 January 2006

A diverse group of cyclists came together today to ride in remembrance of the 21 bicyclists killed on the city's streets in 2005.

The ride visited all the known fatality sites in the 5 boroughs and culminated at a memorial for 8 unnamed cyclists at Houston & Lafayette in Manhattan.

Each of the sites is marked by a white, "ghost bike" made by the art and activist group, Visual Resistance. A small memorial was held at each site and flowers placed on the bike.

These photos are from the last two stops in Manhattan. The first pictures are from Andrew Morgan's memorial. Andrew was killed by a truck at the corner of Houston and Elizabeth St. on June 22, 2005.

The last photo is from a bike lift at the memorial for the 8 unnamed bikers at Houston and Lafayette.
