In it's third year, the New England Culture Fest is a unique festival that combines world music and dance, local artisans, and ethnic food among other things to bring the comunity together for a fun time all to support and rasie awareness about fair trade. The festival will be taking place on Saturday September 2, 2006 in downtown Lowell. This year's festival will even include a fair trade fashion show that is set to be featured in Elle magazine.
This event is being organized by Second World, a fair trade art and media organization based out of Lowell. Second World uses fair trade art sales to support indigenous peoples in third world countries around the world, allowing these low income artisans to work in safety and dignity and enabling them to be self-sufficient while at the same time preserving their culture.
Second World is currently looking for help and support in a variety of areas. We need sponsors, we need artists, companies, and food vendors who would like to be involved in the festival. We also need help spreading the word. If you are a socially responsible and like-minded individual, we would love to have you involved.
