The 3rd annual Ghost Bike memorial ride was held this past Sunday. The Ghost Bike memorial ride commemorates all of the cyclists, named and unnamed, who where hit by cars on the streets of New York. In 2007 at least 23 bike riders were killed by cars. The memorial ride consisted of 3 groups in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx which met up before going to Manhattan. Over 100 cyclists participated in the ride. The pedestrian memorial walk, which was also held on Sunday, met up with the cyclist's to commemorate the last bike for the 9 unnamed cyclists outside of city hall. The ride was followed by a rally and press conference on the steps of city hall.
