Her book, Long Time Passing: Mothers Speak about War & Terror (Pluto Press, 2009, $20 US) is the ambitious, stunning result.

Washington Targets OWS

Stephen Lendman | In March, the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF) obtained heavily redacted Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requested documents. They showed federal agencies began "coordinated intelligence gathering and operations on" OWS last September. [...] Documents show its top officials "were preoccupied with the Occupy movement and have gone out of their way to project the appearance of an absence of federal involvement in the monitoring of and crackdown on Occupy."

On May 3, PCJF headlined, "DHS Releases More Documents on Occupy to PCJF." They reveal "massive (federal) nationwide" OWS monitoring and information sharing between DHS and local authorities. World Press Freedom Day

Stephen Lendman | In December 1993, the UN General Assembly declared May 3 World Press Freedom Day.

The May 3 State Department statement [says] in part: "On World Press Freedom Day—and every day—the United States honors and supports media freedom at home and abroad. Press freedom is a key element of the freedom of expression, which is a foundation for other universal human rights. We call on all governments to protect the universal human right to freedom of expression."

Calling on its own would be a good place to start.

At issue is heroic investigative journalism [...] Dozens of journalists covering Occupy Wall Street demonstrations have been harassed, assaulted and arrested from New York to San Francisco. Societies committing these offenses aren't free. One abuse follows another. Freedom's eventually lost. America is racing toward it. more...  0 Comments

Rogue newspapers or part of a continuum?

Systemic Disorder | Not covering certain news can be as important as covering news. The New York Times regularly gives heavy coverage, often on the front page, of demonstrations in Moscow, yet published only a tiny article buried far inside the paper on the May Day demonstrations, some of which occurred only two blocks from its office. That is simply a different, more sophisticated method of marginalizing a mass movement than the crude, politically motivated attacks in the New York Post.

Worldwide Children's Revolution proposed to lead May Day protest marches

Nick Martian | “THE KIDS ARE REVOLTING!” is the original banner which the Children of the Eco-Warriors carried with local children and their mothers during the kids' march at the Camp for Climate Action...

The idea of the worldwide Children's Revolution on May Day is for the women and children in the environmental movement to lead the marches all over the earth, and show that the World Revolution is peaceful and will save humanity from being driven to extinction by the burning of fossil fuels.

The proposal for the worldwide Children's Revolution is for kids' marches to be at the front of all the protests during the global General Strike, and for everyone else to lend their support by displaying banners reading “CAN YOU SAVE THE HUMAN RACE?” to help ensure the survival of future generations. more...  0 Comments
