POG members in Oaxaca | This account is not meant to be a complete account of the day, it is meant to be from the perspectives and experiences of two people in the midst of what can only be described as a battle in the streets of Santa Lucia, in Oaxaca. We know that other things happened in other neighborhoods, and that other things probably happened in our vicinity. This is our best effort at capturing the events that we experienced and witnessed. Visual Resistance | We’re also getting word of more events at the consulate — here’s the full list of events:
Brad Will | "In New York City...something really amazing happened.... People took back their neighbourhoods, one lot at a time. They cultivated unique community greenscapes. They brought their homes with them: from the rural south to Harlem; from Puerto Rico to the Lower East Side; from Jamaica to East New York; from the Dominican Republic to the South Bronx. They disregarded property rights and did what was right for their neighbors. The story of the community gardens is thousands of stories. I can tell a few." more... 0 Comments

According to the Associated Press, three days before Brad was killed, police "fired in the air" at people in a small Oaxaca city, about 120 miles from the capital. They were protesting the arrival of Oaxaca governor, Ulises Ruiz, a hated figure, who has been accused of rigging his own election.

salaud | I think we should all take a look at what is so important about indymedia work and why it is so important and what it means to each one of us. I hope that we draw courage of conviction from Brad's example and that we stand together throughout the indymedia network and as individuals to redouble our efforts. I think you all know that it could have been any one of us. But, it is so much easier for them to take us one at a time. We stand much more strongly together in what we can all be proud of. Our brave common struggle. Indymedia. more... 1 Comments
