New School Benefit Incites Mini Riot; 15 arrested

exquiste | As usual the philosophical-politico Manhattanite university crowd turned out, as well as a handful of strictly Brooklyn party types. The half-anarchist half-hipster crowd couldn’t help but appear reminiscent of a certain catastrophic scenario in recent memory. Around 1:30 AM police showed up outside the 210 Cook street building and unplugged the sound system.

Feeble Destruction: A Critique of "Wrecking You Again for the Very First Time"

The Brooklyn Revolutionary Bricklayers | With the dust fully settled over the streets of St. Paul, its storefronts gleaming with fresh plate glass, we call for a critical look at our methods of resistance. The authors of "wrecking you again for the very first time" paint property destruction as the physical manifestation of all our desires. It is our view that our dreams and desires amount to so much more. To view minor economic damage as the only legitimate attack on state and capital is both short sighted and dangerous. more...  0 Comments

VP GREEN PARTY CANDIDATE IN BROOKLYN, WED AUGUST 6th 2008

ROSA A. CLEMENTE | Friends, I want to encourage you to come to this event with Rosa Clemente, a friend and long-time local activist who is on the national Green Party ticket with Cynthia McKinney. Rosa is a fantastic speaker and special guests La Bruja, Rebel Diaz, and the Welfare Poets are not to be missed.

There is no doubt who will win New York's electoral votes in November, making this an ideal forum for airing the ideas that we believe should be adopted by the new president next year. So come share your ideas. Imagine a Green Party that you could actually get down with. Or just come to watch this phenomenon of the Brooklyn Greens supporting a young Puerto Rican woman candidate.

The event is free. Everyone in attendance will be asked to donate money and help gather signatures to get the Green Party on the ballot in NY. It's at Public Assembly, the bar that used to be Galapagos before the guys from Southpaw took it over. They have a happy hour from 7-9.

More details below.

Surveillance in South Crown Heights

no_absolutes | Shortly after midnight, a police helicopter began circling the Jackie Robinson apartment complex on Empire Boulevard in the Lefferts Gardens area of Brooklyn. We're now used to police standing on corners throughout our summer and fall, lest something undecorous happen in an otherwise quiet residential community that is, for the most part, entirely peaceful. But are we supposed to get used to helicopters with searchlights circling our homes every night? more...  1 Comments
