New York City Asks Court Not to Unseal Police Spy Files

Jim Dwyer, The New York Times | Lawyers for the city, responding to a request to unseal records of police surveillance leading up to the 2004 Republican convention in New York, say that the documents should remain secret because the news media will “fixate upon and sensationalize them,” hurting the city’s ability to defend itself in lawsuits over mass arrests. more...  0 Comments

“Has Sen. Barbara Mikulski Lost Her Soul?”

William Hughes | Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) voted against the Iraqi War. But, since then, she has acted like an agent of the Bush-Cheney Gang by consistently voting to fund it to the tune of $411.3 billion. Mikulski says she “cares about the troops,” but Peace advocates in Maryland think that she has “lost her soul.” They wonder when Mikulski is going to say: “Stop this war!” She has ignored the mandate of the Nov. 7, 2006 election. Iraq is now Sen. Mikulski’s War! more...  0 Comments

N.Y. Police Spied Broadly Before G.O.P. Convention

Jim Dwyer, The New York Times | For at least a year before the 2004 Republican National Convention, teams of undercover New York City police officers traveled to cities across the country, Canada and Europe to conduct covert observations of people who planned to protest at the convention, according to police records and interviews. From Albuquerque to Montreal, San Francisco to Miami, undercover New York police officers attended meetings of political groups, posing as sympathizers or fellow activists, the records show. more...  4 Comments

Philippines: Military is sowing intrigue among militant party-lists

Partido ng Manggagawa (Party of Workers) | The Partido ng Manggagawa (Party of Workers) on Saturday slammed the military for claiming that captured New People’s Army documents assert that the labor party-list group together with Sanlakas and Akbayan are "fronts for Malacanang."

Democrats pass “anti-war” bill that funds the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan

Barry Grey | After weeks of public posturing and behind-the-scenes maneuvering, Democrats in the House of Representatives secured passage Friday of an emergency spending bill that grants the Bush administration’s request for over $100 billion in additional funds for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In what amounts to a colossal political fraud, they presented their “Troop Readiness, Veterans Health and Iraq Accountability Act” as a measure to force an end to the war in Iraq by September 1, 2008.

It does nothing of the kind. Even if a similar Democratic measure were to be passed in the Senate—and it will not—and the final bill were to survive a presidential veto—a political impossibility—the resulting law would do nothing to halt the current military escalation in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and would allow upwards of 75,000 US troops to remain in Iraq indefinitely. more...  1 Comments

Navigating the web of lies and hoaxes seeded against Venezuela’s Government

JESUS MARIA NERY BARRIOS | VHeadline en Español News Editor Jesus Nery Barrios writes: Continuing our cyber crusade, navigating the web of lies and hoaxes seeded against Venezuela’s Bolivarian Government, President Hugo Chavez and its brave people in the mainstream media, and to show readers the other side of the coin, allowing them to achieve some balance in the information they receive and to arrive at their own conclusions, we find yet another oft-reiterated topic concerning the land of Simon Bolivar, Luis Aparicio and Jacinto Convit (the Venezuelan physician who discovered a vaccine for leprosy). more...  0 Comments

NY Post, Gossip Girls Scramble to Slander Truthseekers

Ytzhak | Richard Johnson, in the Post, believes it is a “twisted theory that the United States government was behind the 9/11 terror attacks,” never mind plenty of historical precedent. But the Gossip Girls and the Post, of course, would rather you bone up on Angelina Joline’s “Baby Bungle” and the “Crying Girl” of American Idol and leave the history for the professors.

New World Order

peptide | A recent article brought home the shocking truth of today’s new world order by contrasting the social outrage expressed against Richard Nixon for his minor offence of a break and enter (Watergate) with today's social complacency in the face of half-a-million civilian dead in Iraq. The office of president of the USA has become an experimental position where corporate placed buffoons are allowed to reign ruin on the world. The “bouquet of flowers, mission accomplished, WMD, give war a chance”, administration got it wrong from the start yet ‘bouquet’ Wolfowitz has been promoted to the president of the World Bank, where he continues to bungle and lose to other interests (China). The incompetent clown, Bush, remains president and the criminals who benefit remain behind the scenes profiting on the misery of others! more...  0 Comments
