CRASH THE RNC: Sector 4 Barricade Building Contest

UA in the Bay |

Representatives of our corrupt two-party system intend to host self-congratulatory celebrations this summer at the Democratic National Convention in Denver and the Republican National Convention in St. Paul. We support demonstrating opposition to their parties by crashing and shutting them down, while having a little fun ourselves. In alliance with thousands of others nationwide who are collaborating to swarm the RNC on day one, September 1st — Bay Area, Santa Cruz, and other Northern California radicals have banded together as "Unconventional Action (UA) in the Bay" and collectively chosen to adopt SECTOR 4 in downtown St. Paul.

"Oooh! -- Sorry About that Slavery Thing!"

Mumia Abu-Jamal | Centuries of slavery, the intentional destruction of families, tribes, and nations; ripping people asunder from their religions, their clans, their spouses, children, lands and all that they knew and loved -- for centuries -- to build and enrich a nation of strangers -- who enforced the practices of slavery for a hundred years after it's supposed abolition; only to consign the grandchildren of these people to the bitter half-lives of sub-par education, poor housing, second rate health care, under/employment, the cruelties of mass incarceration and a cynical judicial and political system that endlessly engages in white supremacy (without the labels).... Yeah, a political apology should just about cover that. more...  0 Comments

Barack Obama in Berlin: "Send more troops!"

Wladek Flakin | The flow of people from the Brandenburg Gate to the Victory Column in the heart of Berlin seemed truly endless. On 24 July, up to 200,000 people came to Berlin's central park, the Tiergarten, to hear a speech by U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama. As with the "fan mile" for the European Cup, which had been in the same place on month earlier, there were jumbotrons alongside the countless beer and sausage stands. more...  0 Comments

VP GREEN PARTY CANDIDATE IN BROOKLYN, WED AUGUST 6th 2008

ROSA A. CLEMENTE | Friends, I want to encourage you to come to this event with Rosa Clemente, a friend and long-time local activist who is on the national Green Party ticket with Cynthia McKinney. Rosa is a fantastic speaker and special guests La Bruja, Rebel Diaz, and the Welfare Poets are not to be missed.

There is no doubt who will win New York's electoral votes in November, making this an ideal forum for airing the ideas that we believe should be adopted by the new president next year. So come share your ideas. Imagine a Green Party that you could actually get down with. Or just come to watch this phenomenon of the Brooklyn Greens supporting a young Puerto Rican woman candidate.

The event is free. Everyone in attendance will be asked to donate money and help gather signatures to get the Green Party on the ballot in NY. It's at Public Assembly, the bar that used to be Galapagos before the guys from Southpaw took it over. They have a happy hour from 7-9.

More details below.
