Putin: Don't want democracy like Iraq's | Vladimir Putin delivered a barbed retort to George Bush's muted criticism of Russia's democratic record yesterday when he told reporters at a joint press conference that he did not want to head a democracy like Iraq's.
Weekly News Update on the Americas | As tens of thousands of AMLO's supporters--"the people the color of the earth" Subcomandante Marcos names them--march across the Mexican landscape on their way up to the capital to demand electoral justice, invoking scenes of the great movement of "los de abajo" (those from down below) during Mexico's monumental 1910-1919 revolution, the country holds it breath. more... 1 Comments

j0hn | In the buildup to attack Iran, the administration sought to use false nuclear evidence. When Ambassador Wilson refused to go along and even wrote an editorial saying there was no nuclear evidence, they treasonously released his covert wifes identity in the CIA. This jeopardized all our work on detecting loose nuclear material, which was her job as well as costing the lives of other "in country" operatives. more... 1 Comments
Howie Hawkins | Vice-President Dick Cheney should be impeached by Congress, along with President Bush, for lying and lawbreaking. The Articles of Impeachment should cover for areas of high crimes and misdemeanors: warrantless surveillance, misleading Congress on the reasons for the Iraq war, violating laws against torture, and subverting the Constitution's separation of powers. Cheney provided false information to the American public and Congress as reasons for invading Iraq and then actively promoted war crimes involving the use of torture in carrying out the occupation of Iraq. He has violated the prohibition against wars of aggression in Chapter 1, Article 2 of the United Nations Charter. more... 0 Comments
Ruth | I’m writing from military-occupied New Orleans. The National Guard and State Police have been sent into town and a juvenile curfew imposed, because as far as the bourgeois state is concerned, a few too many black people have returned.
Fred Bergen | The case itself leaves no doubt that the seven men -- Narseal Batiste, Patrick Abraham, Stanley Grant Phanor, Naudimar Herrera, Burson Augustin, Lyglenson Lemorin, and Rotschild Augustine -- were set up by a government agent bent on sustaining public fears of "Islamic Terrorism" in the service of US imperialist wars. more... 0 Comments
Howie Hawkins | Howie Hawkins, the Green Party candidate for US Senate for New York, said today that the US government should use its leadership to effect an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East before it escalates into an all out war involving multiple countries. He condemned the Bush administration’s unconditional support for Israel’s military attacks in Gaza and Lebanon. Hawkins said that an international peacekeeping force should be deployed to end the Israeli military occupation of Palestinian territories and its operations in Gaza and Lebanon and to stop attacks against Israel by Palestinian forces. The United States has been the principal country blocking implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions 242 (1967) and 338 (1973), which require Israel to withdraw from the occupied territories. more... 0 Comments
