‘Destroyed’ FBI Puerto Rico Files Prompt Cover-up Charges

The NewStandard | In the wake of an activist's death at the hands of FBI operatives, the agency's revelation that it may have destroyed records on the independence movement in Puerto Rico has aggravated tensions over the government's presence on the island. In a recent response to a Freedom of Information Act request, the FBI admitted that it could not locate records relating to the activities of a prominent Puerto Rican nationalist. FREE FILM SCREENINGS: ATENCO and OAXACA, August 24th & 31st, back to back Thursdays, at 8PM

This video analyzes the events in San Salvador Atenco during the
first days of May, 2006 and denounces the violation of the civilian
population's human rights by state and federal police forces. The
documentary deconstructs the mass media's operating methods, which were
responsible for creating a climate of fear and an information blockade
on the events in San Salvador Atenco, in the midst of an especially
delicate situation: the 2006 process of presidential succession in Mexico.

US administration rejects Iran’s offer of “serious negotiations”

Peter Symonds | The Bush administration yesterday signalled its rejection of Iran’s offer of “serious negotiations,” setting the stage for punitive economic sanctions and an escalating confrontation with Tehran.
The US response came just a day after Tehran issued a lengthy formal reply to a package of proposals on Iran’s nuclear programs made by the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany in June. White House spokeswoman Dana Perino announced Wednesday that the Iranian response “falls short of the conditions set by the Security Council”. more...  0 Comments

Pictures: Massive Turnout for Atlantic Yard Public Hearing

Brian Tubbs | The public hearing over Bruce Ratner's Development project had little to do with addressing those in power. Instead, roudy supporters faced off with the tempermental opposition. People for the project, mostly Union Laborers and the unemployeed are badly in need of jobs. Those against, are worried that the jobs and affordable housing are just a ruse. The proposal for the Nets arena and 16 skyscrappers is the biggest to ever hit NYC, but the communtiy and oversite committees have been closed out of the process.
