Taking the 7 Talks to the Proletariat

SEP Senate candidate addresses campaign meeting in New York City

WSWS | Socialist Equality Party candidate for US Senate Bill Van Auken addressed a public meeting in New York City Sunday on the party’s intervention in the midterm elections and the role played by his opponent, incumbent Democrat Hillary Clinton, in the ongoing campaign of US militarism in Iraq and the attacks on the working class in the US itself.

Why I hate America

Mickey Z. | When pressed, I sometimes reply: "I don't hate America. In fact, think it's one of the best countries anyone ever stole." But, after the laughter dies down, I have a confession to make: If by "America" they mean the elected/appointed officials and the corporations that own them, well, I guess I do hate that America-with justification. more...  1 Comments

SEP candidate for Senate to speak at New York meeting

World Socialist Web Site | The Socialist Equality Party candidate for US Senate, Bill Van Auken, will speak at a campaign meeting to be held in New York City on Sunday, September 17.

The SEP has succeeded in placing Van Auken on the ballot in New York for the November 7 election, after filing petitions last month bearing the signatures of nearly 25,000 of the state’s voters.

The challenge that the SEP is mounting to Hillary Clinton—the frontrunner in the contest for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination—has national and international political significance. The incumbent junior US senator from New York embodies the reactionary role of the Democratic Party and its support for both US militarism abroad and social reaction at home. more...  0 Comments

My Yassky Problem and Ours

Kazembe Balagun | Sometime during David Yassky’s campaign swing through the Wyckoff Gardens housing development, a chocolate donut was hurled at his contingent. Ironically, an officer serving security detail caught the fructose glazed missile. While no one was hurt (including Mayor Bloomberg who accompanied Yassky to tout new security measures at the projects) that sugary shell said mountains about the racial tensions surrounding Yassky’s run for Congressional in the 11th district.

9/11 Commemoration: American Women Demonstrate in Chains and Burkas Against Afghan Embassy on 9/11

By Sara Cantrell (NYC)- Afghan Wire News | "America did not invent human rights. In a very real sense, it is the other way around.
Human rights invented America." - President Jimmy Carter

Following that credo, on September 11, 2006, American women handcuffed and chained themselves to the Afghan Embassy in Washington, DC to protest against Hamid Karzai's oppressive government. A spokeswoman stated that this was "just the start of demonstrations against the Afghan Embassy in Washington to protest President Karzai's illegal imprisonment of innocent Americans and treatment of Afghan women." more...  1 Comments
