Brandeis Donors Exact Revenge For Carter Visit

Jewish Week | Major donors to Brandeis University have informed the school they will no longer give it money in retaliation for its decision last month to host former President Jimmy Carter, a strong critic of Israel.

The donors have notified the school in writing of their decisions — and specified Carter as the reason, said Stuart Eizenstat, a former aide to Carter during his presidency and a current trustee of Brandeis, one of the nation’s premier Jewish institutions of higher learning.

They are “more than a handful,” he said. “So, this is a concern. There are evidently a fair number of donors who have indicated they will withhold contributions.” more...  0 Comments

New Yorkers Petition Canada over Three Men near Death in Canada’s “Guantanamo Bay North”

New Yorkers Against Secret Trials | Tuesday the 13th of February, a delegation of New Yorkers visited the Canadian Consulate to deliver a statement supporting three men on hunger strike who are detained in Kingston Immigration Holding Facility (Ontario),which is also known as “Guantanamo North”. Mohammad Mahjoub is now on his 81st day refusing food, Mahmoud Jaballah and Hassan Almrei are on their 70th day without food. All three of the men are close to death. The three detainees are hunger striking for basic improvements in their prison conditions, such as daily medical care and the appointment of the Correctional Investigator, an independent ombudsman to register complaints. These services are available in other Canadian prisons, but not in the new Kingston facility, which holds only the three men on hunger strike. They are detained as part of Canada’s controversial security certificate process which means their detention is indefinite and they do not have the right to a fair, open trial.

Please make CALLS AND FAXES to "Public Safety" Minister Stockwell Day, demanding:

a) Begin providing regular medical monitoring of these three men IN
THE LIVING UNIT immediately and without conditions.

b) Immediately appoint the federal Correctional Investigator to
negotiate a solution to the hungerstrike.

c) After the hungerstrike, act without delay to address the underlying reasons for the hunger strikes: indefinite detention, denial of a fair trial and deportation to torture.

* Write or call to:
The Honourable Stockwell Day
Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness
