Christianity without Christ

Ulrich H J Kortner | Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) sought to introduce Christianity into Christendom when the state religion had become comfortable and indistinguishable from the world Faith in the God of infinite love means scandal, paradox, sacrifice and engagement. Kierkegaard like Leonardo Boff calls us to authenticity in a penultimate world of reversible cups and self-righteousness. more...  0 Comments

AJLPP-New York | On behalf of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), I write to express our alarm and dismay over the abduction of Pastor Berlin Guerrero of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines. Our understanding is that he was abducted by members of the Philippine National Police and the Naval Intelligence Security Forces and is still being held by Philippine authorities.

We are deeply concerned by reports of the tactics employed in Pastor Guerrero's abduction. We understand that he was taken by armed men who carried drawn weapons. No warrant of arrest was produced at the time of his abduction. Reports indicate that personal affects were taken from members of his family when he was abducted. We urge you to call for, and oversee, a full investigation of the circumstances surrounding the abduction of Pastor Guerrero. This investigation should include the activities of the police and of the military and security forces.

GABNet "Beauty Queen Pageant" in NYC Philippine Independence Celebrations

Ollie Quinto Reyes | ...concurrent with this narrative of on-going oppression is a people’s continuing saga towards true freedom. This was evident in GABNet’s demonstration—objectification of women (symbolized in the queen as an object of beauty) juxtaposed against a backdrop of protests and demands for justice. It was a strong expression of anger, but was an even stronger expression of hope... more...  0 Comments

NDFP verifies that Prof. Sison is NDFP chief political consultant and belies GRP

AJLPP-New York | - The National Council of the National Democrat Front of the Philippines hereby verifies that Prof. Jose Maria Sison is the NDFP chief political consultant and belies the claim of the Manila government that he is chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and head of the New People’s Army (NPA).

Prof. Sison himself has consistently declared that the leadership of the CPP and the command of the NPA are in the Philippines and not in The Netherlands or anywhere else thousands of miles away from the Philippines. His lawyer Jan Fermon has convincingly demonstrated that he cannot be the CPP chairman and NPA head because he has been separated from the CPP and NPA since his arrest in 1977 by the Marcos fascist regime (more than 29 years ago) as well as since his departure from the Philippines in 1986 (more than 20 years ago).

OPLAN Mercury Rising in motion

AJLPP-New York | At the rate the newspapers and TV newscasts are exposing real evidence of electoral fraud since 29 May 2007, Bantay Boto ng Bayan cannot help but feel vindicated for exposing Oplan Mercury Rising. The numerous dagdag-bawas reports accurately quoting, by the hundred thousands of vote leads for Team Unity candidates in the 13th to the 16th slots, give due credence to the Oplan. The provinces where the calumny occurred are the same provinces mentioned in the Oplan. The named Comelec officials are the same persons identified in the Oplan. 1. The delay of the Comelec en banc as the National Board of Canvassers in tallying the provincial COCs and more specifically the canvassing slowdown, particularly in the Oplan Mercury Rising provinces are indicators that this major Oplan strategy is being implemented. It has deferred canvassing in Maguindanao, Sulu, Caloocan City, Taguig-Pateros, Davao del Sur, North Cotabato, and South Cotabato for varied reasons, including allegations of massive cheating, yet no charges and complaints were filed against any Comelec and public official involve We are sending a very strong message on the eventual and probable loss of Honasan, Trillanes and Pimentel, as clearly being shown by the current events. We know that the rule of law will ultimately reign. Concerned Comelec officials must now choose whether they prefer the law of the jungle instead. Bantay Boto ng Bayan is making this statement after due consultation with the convenors of the uniformed active and retired member organizations and with the explicit support from their allied civil society groups. more...  0 Comments

AJLPP-New York | The Alliance for a Just and Lasting Peace in the Philippines (AJLPP) strongly demand that the US-Arroyo regime stop harassing Representative Crispin Beltran and other progressive party-list representatives and set Ka. Bel totally free.

The AJLPP find it ridiculous that the Makati City Court will just set Ka Bel free for only four days during the duration of the Congress sessions while the Supreme Court has just junked the charges against him and the “Batasan Five” as devoid of due process.

The AJLPP strongly support Ka Bel’s family demand for compensation for his medical expenses incurred during his “hospital detention” for 15 months. Besides, the hospital expenses was not a voluntary effort on the part of Ka Bel but was forced by the US-Arroyo regime. It is the responsibility of the police and the US-Arroyo regime to compensate the Beltran family for these unwanted expenses.

On the other hand, the AJLPP also condemn the new machinations of the COMELEC for its “veterans formula” of giving only three seats in the lower house to the party-list group BUHAY and give other party-list groups one seat each.
