Umar Lee | What we know now is that several fires have been set in Bed-Stuy and Prospect Heights in rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods and that those fires have killed a number of people of color that live in rental properties. Instead of pursuing this story with vigor the mainstream media has largely ignored it and only the Spanish-speaking media has adequately covered the issue and the concerns raised by City Council Member Letitia James of the Working Families Party.
rozele | Jewish supporters of workers’ rights zapped a Yiddish studies conference this weekend at NYU, where graduate teachers have been on strike for over 100 days. Since fall 2005, NYU’s graduate teachers have been on strike for a new contract, and the entire campus has been under picket; attending events held in NYU buildings is crossing a picket line. nano | Pauline Hanson recently announced on news radio that her political views have been “vindicated”; she cited the overt racist attitudes of John Howard and Peter Costello as proof of her claim. Hanson’s trial and subsequent imprisonment effectively eliminated her and her party from the Australian political landscape; mainstream racist ideology was re-established in its rightful home, the white Australian conservative ultra-right Liberal Party of Howard! The world watches Australia take a giant leap backwards as Howard continues to divide the nation. more... 0 Comments
