A31- Union Square

Edgar Mata | On August 31st, 2004 a group of roughly 40 protesters left Union Square at night to join a rally being held near Madison Sqaure Garden by many people participating in the A31 day of direct action. Despite complying to all police requests at various intersections, the group was arrested for no apparent reason by a group of police officers who moments before had promised them safe passage through their net covered barricades, seemingly swayed by the fact that the whole group continually and silently raised their hands in peace. After being lined up in single file, however, ostensibly to pass through the barricades, the group was mass arrested. On August 31st, 2004, A31 called for a day of nonviolent protest and direct action against the Republican National Convention and the Bush administration in general due to their unjust policies at home and abroad. In return the NYPD delivered over 1,500 arrests, many seemingly arbitrary as protesters and passerbys alike were quite literally caught by nets and trapped by the police force. more...  1 Comments

Moveon.org Does More Harm Than Good

Lloyd Hart | Just like John Kerry's adolescent attack on George Bush's middle initial W. earlier this week where he described the W. standing for Wrong about the war in Iraq, Wrong about the economy etc. etc. Moveon.org has resurrected their failed adolescent attack on George Bush's Air Guard record by supporting a group called Texans for Truth. In an election that is turning out to be more about the person running rather than the important policies that this election hinges on - the corporate media is playing the willing messenger, handing the feces to the candidates and their designated 527s. more...  11 Comments
