The BBC's Paul Wood, who is at the scene, said there was sniper fire from four or five points on the horizon. New Yorkers To Mark Veterans' Day

NYC-IMC | Before it was renamed Veteran's Day in the United States, November 11th was known as Armistice Day and marked the day that the carnage of World War I came to an end.

On November 11, New Yorkers' will mark the day with calls for peace. Code Pink will be holding a Veterans Day Peace Vigil in Columbus Circle at 7pm. There are still nightly candlelight vigils in Washington Square Park. And this weekend, the Campus Anti-War Network will hold its national conference at Pace Univeristy.
