Will a Real American Senator Please Stand Up?

T.M. Abdelazim | . Not much surprised me in Fahrenheit 911. The theatrics of Moore were expected and the more critical reporting was old-hat to this political junkie. But one scene in his movie haunted me to the bone, and had I not seen it, I probably never would’ve dreamed it possible. . more...  2 Comments

Kerik feigns ignorance of Iraq torture by his police

peace fem | Corrupt 'cop' Kerik pretends he knew nothing of his goons' torture & rape practices in Iraq. "For two months I've been here and heard the rumors about what happened to women, but no one came forward," said Bernard B. Kerik, the senior policy adviser to the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and former police commissioner in New York City. "This is the first case where someone has given us information that appears to be credible and that we can corroborate and act on. A lot of Iraqi women will see that we are serious. This is an event that will lead to closure for a lot of people -- and justice." more...  3 Comments

Federal Judge Dismisses NYC's Attempts to Bar Critical Mass Rides (in other words, we win!)

Gideon | (from the Open Newswire / Judge's Ruling): "However, while some of the City's difficulties in apprehending violators are generated by the spontaneous and unpredictable nature of Critical Mass, they were also spawned by the City itself ... After allowing Critical Mass rides in Manhattan for ten years without permits and in a manner that the City contends violates the Vehicle and Traffic Law, the Police Department has acquiesced to the very conduct it now seeks to prohibit."

Another critical mass rider notes that "While the denial of the injunction is good news I don't know if we can declare victory just yet. The lack of an injunction at the November 26th Critical Mass didn't deter the City/NYPD from arresting cyclists and scaring away hundreds more not wishing to risk arrest. I expect this draconian behavior to continue." [Read More]

The next critical mass ride is New Year's Eve.
