Battle Rages in Oaxaca Over the Weekend

Simon Fitzgerald |

What was supposed to be a peaceful eight-mile march to the Oaxaca City Center from the offices of the repudiated Governor of Oaxaca Ulises Ruiz ended in violent confrontations that spiraled into a five hour battle between police and protesters this past Saturday. America's moment in the Middle East is about to end

By Mike Whitney | There are no “accidents” in Middle East politics. This week’s assassination of Lebanese Industry Minister, Pierre Gemayel can only be understood in the context of the ongoing struggle between the competing political forces in the region. Presently, the United States is the big loser in this regard due to its failed campaign in Iraq. The war has severely damaged the perception of US military invincibility and triggered a stunning rejection of Bush’s policies in the in the midterm elections. Now, the political-paradigm in America has shifted and a phased withdrawal of American troops could begin in a matter of months. Needless to say, this is not the outcome that the hawks in Washington or Tel Aviv had in mind.

Could the assassination of Gemayel be an attempt to forestall the impending withdrawal of American forces?

Yes. more...  0 Comments

Kramer Is A N Word Lover | On the heals of the tape illustrating the guy who played Kramer on Seinfeld use of the N word against an African American who was heckling during his performance herein lies what we deem is the appropriate use of this heinous "word".

People of European Descent

For people of European descent in America or anywhere else in the world, the N word should never be said. It should never be said publicly or privately. As the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed not all speech is free speech, some speech when used enters into the realm of unprotected speech, such as yelling fire in a crowded theatre the N word is such a word. more...  6 Comments

Spirituality and Liberation: Segundo Galilea

Waldemar Labusca | Advent is a time of beginning as crisis can be a time to pause and gain new perspectives and priorities. Liberation theology sees God in Christ and Christ in the suffering poor. We are called to be internationalistas, to create a new language and a new mathematics as Jesus taught. The world will be changed when people speak as Jesus spoke - in a way that scandalizes and attracts by its power. So Dietrich Bonhoeffer proclaimed from his prison cell. more...  1 Comments
