Surveillance in South Crown Heights

no_absolutes | Shortly after midnight, a police helicopter began circling the Jackie Robinson apartment complex on Empire Boulevard in the Lefferts Gardens area of Brooklyn. We're now used to police standing on corners throughout our summer and fall, lest something undecorous happen in an otherwise quiet residential community that is, for the most part, entirely peaceful. But are we supposed to get used to helicopters with searchlights circling our homes every night? more...  1 Comments

Highlights of the US State Visit of President Arroyo of the Philippines

AJLPP | f we have to assess the highlights of the 10-day state visit of President Macapagal-Arroyo to the United States, we can sum it up in several points.Besides securing $ 700 million loans, talking with US investors, one important agenda of PGMA in her visit are the “ getting to know you” meetings with the US Democratic Party presumptive presidential candidate Barack Obama and Republican Senator John McCain.

She reportedly met with a secret meeting with Senator McCain in Fresno and she flew back to Washington Dc to met again with McCain last June 27. It is no secret that all Philippine president ad would be presidents since the colonial times when the US used to rile the islands, wish and make it a point to ingratiate themselves to presumptive presidents.
Dictator Ferdinand Marcos cultivated a long and close relationships with then President Roland Reagan while he was still a governor ( contributing dollars to his campaign). He was in under his(Reagan’s) good graces until his (Marcos death) in 1989.

AJLPP-New York |
The 10-day visit of U.S.-backed Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (GMA) and ten of her Cabinet members to three states in the U.S. is nothing more than a spectacle starring a puppet president and her masters in the White House, the Capitol, and in the offices of Wall Street. The Filipino people have nothing to gain from this

AJLPP | Money for the Filipino Veterans, Not a Penny for the war in Iraq!

The Alliance-Philippines (AJLPP) today expresses outrage over the passing of the more than & 628 B budget to fund the Iraq –Afghanistan war yesterday, June 26 while that the Filipino Veterans Equity bill that was languishing in the US congress for more than 18 years was not even discussed.

Aside approving the war budget, the legislative visit or the lobby by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo took precedence in the House of Representatives. CDIR Condemns Malaysia's expulsion plan Against Immigrants

Coalition In Defense of Immigrant Rights | The Coalition in Defense of Immigrant Rights (CDIR)-USA strongly condemns Malaysia’s plan to chase out tens of thousands of Filipino and Indonesian illegal immigrants.

The CDIR-USA said that immigrants include a large number of asylum seekers and refugees who had fled from the conflict-ridden Mindanao region in the southern Philippines to Malaysia's eastern Sabah state on Borneo island.
In addition, the CDIR noted that many are stateless people and migrants who had lived in Sabah for more than a decade, including children who now risk being expelled. The CDIR said that the simplistic and arbitrary action of mass crackdown by the federal government in addressing such a serious and complex issue will result into serious human rights and humanitarian crisis,"

PGMA-Bush Summit, A Meeting of Terrorist

AJLPP | The Alliance-Philippines (AJLPP) condemns in the strongest terms possible the President Arroyo of the Philippines and US President Bush summit on June 24 in Washington DC and the coming President Arroyo’s visit to the United States from June 23 -27, 2008.The Arroyo-Bush summit is a meeting of two terrorist.

It is a meeting of the most unpopular presidents in their respective countries, a summit between a colonial master and a puppet. Up for discussions are colonial relations, pure and simple. The Filipino people stand nothing to gain from such a meeting of two of the most criticized leaders in the world

Their agenda will be the war on terror, which resulted in the stalled peace talks in the Philippines between the GRP and the NDFP and the MILF for four years. Because of the US war on terror in the Philippines, human rights violations escalated: More 1,000 activist were killed since 2001when PGMA assumed power. More than 200 activists are missing including 10 NDF peace consultants and 200 persons including 5 NDF peace consultants have been detained and are languishing in jails.

Adalah-NY: ADL demand that UNICEF reinstate Leviev as donor outrageous

Adalah-NY | The New York rights coalition Adalah-NY today labeled as “hypocritical and outrageous” the June 24 demand by The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) that UNICEF reinstate Israeli billionaire Lev Leviev as a donor. In a June 24 press release, ADL Director Abe Foxman criticized UNICEF’s decision to sever ties with Leviev, saying that it "smacks of selective political discrimination.” UNICEF announced last week that it would no longer accept donations from Lev Leviev due to his involvement in the construction of Israeli settlements in violation of international law. UNICEF’s decision came after they received letters criticizing Leviev’s activities from groups including Adalah-NY, Jews Against the Occupation, Jewish Voice for Peace, and a visit by UNICEF officials to Jayyous, one of the West Bank Palestinian communities where a Leviev company is building Israeli settlements.
