Free Youth Network | This spring will be the fourth spring of the war and occupation of Iraq. The fourth spring of bombs over Baghdad and body bags full of young Iraqis and working-class Americans. The fourth spring of tyranny and torture in the name of freedom. The fourth spring of the armed robbery of the Iraqi people, and the poor people and young people of Boston. So this spring, we, the Free Youth Network, ask you to join us in a campaign of nonviolent direct action to confront, disrupt, and break down the war machine. Right here in our own communities. more... 0 Comments

Media Worker in Iraq | The Sunni insurgents, it seems, are now determined to bring the new government to its knees by cutting off fuel supplies to Baghdad. The city's supply of gasoline nearly dried up last week and local authorities literally shut the city down by banning all privately owned vehicles from the streets. They claimed it was to help hunt down the kidnappers of the Interior Minister's sister but the real reason seems to be to reduce the demand for gas until supplies could be replenished. Electricity in most Baghdad neighborhoods has now been further reduced to as low as 1 hour per day. more... 0 Comments

Sam Marcy | What has made the Cuban Revolution unique? Why is it such a beacon to the workers and oppressed masses, not only of Latin America and the Caribbean but around the world?
Milt Neidenberg | The strike will resonate far beyond this city, particularly among the more oppressed, low-paid multinational workers—including many women and immigrants—who suffer intensified deprivation and indignities. Because of the strike, TWU Local 100 and its leaders came out stronger, with a contract they can live with and their dignity intact. Considering that it came during the most relentless and protracted attack on the labor movement, this was the biggest and best thing that has happened in years. That makes it an historic event. more... 2 Comments
Walter C. Uhler | For nearly two decades, from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s, I purchased annual subscriptions to Commentary magazine, edited by Norman Podhoretz. Not that I fell for Podhoretz's neoconservative ideology, his inveterate anti-Sovietism, Israeli chauvinism or incessant rants about the "present danger." Indeed, five of my numerous scathing letters of dissent to the periodical were published (Feb. 1978, Dec. 1990, Dec.1993, Oct.1994 and Aug. 1996).
