War & Peace
populist | ...All by its lonesome, the federal government extracts over Two Trillion Dollars from us every single year. Yet, with all this unthinkable wealth, it has been incapable of reducing poverty, improving our schools, preventing 9-11, catching those who perpetrated the attacks, making health care affordable, reducing crime, and so on. Going even further, each year, it passes new laws that make it legal to pry into your life even more... more... 0 Comments

Christopher Albritton stands by his argument that the "imprisoned journalist" narrative in Iraq has been greatly exaggerated (see his response to me in the comments). Meanwhile, the Burningman writes (again in the comments) that "the journalism coming out of Iraq is among the worst I've ever encountered."
Rather than resolve the dispute here, I thought I'd approach the matter sideways and analyze my own news consumption regarding the Iraq conflict. In other words, how do I, concerned, politically active, internet savvy citizen get my news about the "Vietnam of our time"?more... 1 Comments

Jurgen Wagner | This war policy is jusrtified as a completely selfless undertaking.. When industrialists say a constitutional state must be build militarily, they really mean the right to plunder.. What we witness now is the return to jungle law oir double standards.. The last lie, stability-export, is the biggest lie. It strikes us direclty as the peace movement since it tries to instrumentalize us for western war goals. more... 0 Comments

Deborah Leavy | The arrogance is mind-boggling. Bush has taken unprecedented powers for himself, using the war on terror to justify his imperium. The tyrant is the child of Pride, said Socrates, and we are coming much too close to tyranny. Bush wanted a war with Iraq more than he wanted to catch Osama and thought he could manipulate the American people into confusing the two and supporting a war under false pretenses. more... 0 Comments

budgie | While the forces of the traditional ‘left’ argue and analyse themselves into irrelevance (out of existence) the expedient right rumbles forward like a juggernaut. The left has been overwhelmed by simple expediency, the ‘whatever it takes’ (just get the job done) mentality is winning the day. Political correctness has all but destroyed the left whereas the right streaks ahead unburdened by any ethical issues. Ideology has been completely abandoned in favour of strategy. Any semblance to ideology is merely coincidental or a ruse/distraction. more... 1 Comments

Bill Simpich | Following the April 29 antiwar march in New York, which gathered 350,000 participants and very little press coverage, it looks like the movement to end the war in Iraq is poised to make the shift from single-day protests to an action campaign with a call for a "Declaration of Peace" campaign to use waves of CD and other actions commencing September 21, before Congress recesses and with the goal of making the war the #1 issue in the 2006 election. Take a look at a similar period in 1970, with Kent State, the national student strike, and the 1970 election. more... 0 CommentsPage 63 | Page 61
