It is really hard not to notice the forced happiness of a holiday supposedley based upon the good will of others, all while so many continue to suffer. The peace, and warmth, and tranquility of our homes on these winter days come at the expense of others. Period. As a matter of fact, it is this forced, false sense of peace and tranquility which legitimizes and perpetuates the violent imposition of this political economy on all marginalized people's everywhere in order to benefit none other than ourselves.

Every year the local news stations tap on the surface of our superfice by running one public interest story about the holiday increase in domestic violence, while never exactly elaborating or connecting the dots, for those rich, fat, white, happy faces feasting away at the peace, love, and harmony of their Christmas vacation.

Let's connect the dots. The same monster that rapes and murders you is promising you peace, love, and harmony by cramming it down your throat, through a television commercial about yet one other fucking thing you can't afford, for those you love, in order to BUY THEM THAT PEACE, TRANQUILITY, AND HAPPINESS.

You see, peace is a commodity. A piece of merchandise, like a car stereo or a dvd player, but really a lot more like real-estate or land. Peace is worth more in some places than others. Peace comes at a higher human cost to some.... than others. Peace is a carrot dangling above the head of those who can afford it. A carrot dangled above the head of those who are more than willing to chase it, with out ever really noticing the cost of its lie. While some find themselves in the hamster-wheel-chase-trap, others find themselves "Yurtle the Turtling" way deep down on the bottom of the stack of turtles, chasing this peace without ever really being able to get the rest of the turtles off their back long enough to breathe...
let alone dream about peace.

We can't lie to ourselves. This kind of peace never makes it to the bottom, and the more we try to bring that peace to ourselves, without first thinking about the kind of peace needed at the bottom, for those who struggle for it from below, the more we permeate it, perpetuate it, and legitimize it. Until our peace does not include dignity, justice, and liberty for all, then our peace is.....
their terror.

Terrorism. Think about the psychological terrorism of an unattainable golden carrot labeled peace, in the face of a starving child, a torture victim, a political prisoner, a victim of the violence that grows within our own communities as we begin to flail in the lie of that peace...
falling to pieces on christmas more than ever.

On this Hollow day Season I choose to remind myself of the role I have played, by basking in even a little bit of the warm, fuzzy, comfort of this fake-ass peace. Unfortunately, the Santa down at the mall told me...
I couldn't have dignity for Christmas this year.
